£100 Million Investment Announced as UK Manufacturing Site Marks Milestone

JCB has announced a £100 million investment in ultra-modern manufacturing facilities at its global headquarters in the UK, coinciding with the company’s 80th birthday.

The project at JCB’s Rocester, Staffordshire plant will include a £60 million fully automated powder paint plant, alongside a full modernisation of the shop floor with new machining centres, friction welders, and cylinder boring machines.

The announcement comes as JCB prepares to celebrate the 80th birthdays of both the company and its Chairman, Anthony Bamford. To mark the occasion, JCB is giving its entire global workforce of more than 19,000 employees an additional day’s holiday on October 24.

Anthony Bamford said investing in the UK headquarters, home to JCB since 1950, was an important and logical step. He highlighted the strong work ethic in the Midlands and the area’s deep engineering heritage, saying the £100 million investment will position JCB at the forefront of its industry.

“Basing JCB in the UK makes business sense, just as it always has. We continue to make a huge contribution to the country and the national economy, even though around three-quarters of our UK production is exported,” said Lord Bamford.

The investment coincides with Anthony Bamford’s birthday on October 23, the same day his father, Joseph Cyril Bamford, founded JCB in 1945. Sir James Dyson paid tribute to Bamford, praising his entrepreneurship, engineering, design, and manufacturing achievements in building JCB into a global success story.
