Dealer set to lose tractor franchise under revised distribution strategy

Nicholsons Agricultural will cease selling Case IH tractors in 12 months after receiving formal notice from manufacturer CNH, as the company moves towards a dual-branding dealership strategy across its UK network.

The Norfolk-based dealer said it had been affected by the change, which will see fewer dealers representing the Case IH brand overall. Nicholsons has represented Case IH for more than eight years, building its presence from a small initial tractor range to become an established supplier in its area.

During the 12-month notice period, the business will continue selling Case IH machinery and providing sales, warranty, servicing and repair support.

After the notice period, Nicholsons intends to continue servicing and repairing Case IH equipment but will no longer be able to provide warranty work. Any outstanding warranties on machines at that point will be transferred to Ernest Doe for the remainder of their cover, the dealer said.

The announcement highlights the impact that changes to manufacturer distribution strategies can have on established dealerships and their customers. While consolidation can reduce the number of outlets within a network, it also raises practical questions around local access to machinery, parts, servicing and warranty support.

Nicholsons thanked customers for their support, crediting both new and long-standing owners with helping establish Case IH as one of the most common tractor brands in its operating area.

The dealer has not announced any further details of its plans for the business following the end of its Case IH sales franchise.
