Comment – A good week
May 2026 has felt like a month caught between seasons: dry and almost summer-like at times, but still capable of delivering frost, hail and even snow within the same week.
This was exemplified at ScotGrass this week with a decent dry site, in good condition. Although I as got out of the truck on Sunday afternoon I swiftly donned a hi-viz coat, which stayed on most of the week, boy, was it cold and windy?
I experience a great degree of anxiety before any event, what about the weather? Will anyone attend? Will there be traffic issues, and yet, despite all the voices in my head, attendance was excellent, with the weather playing a good part in this. Not only was there some decent weather leading up to the event, which gets some early season silaging out of the way for farmers and contractors, but it rained overnight. Whilst the overnight rain did delay live demos by an hour or so, it also persuaded a lot of visitors to attend. The online ticket sales went wild from 4am as farmers looked out of the kitchen door and made a decision.
Credit where its due, I would like to thank the manufacturers, dealers and exhibitors who made my life easy on site, and the host farmers for being so accommodating and for inviting us to their ‘barn party’ at the end of a hard few days.. it was much appreciated.
Outside of the silage scene, agflation is rearing its ugly head again, Deere have called time on Mazzotti, and wheat futures are starting to head the right way.
Like the weather, it’s a mixed bag.
Have a good week.
Andy
