Comment – A day out (& a lot of rain)

First off, let’s head to the wheelbarrow and check the stats. May received a healthy 123mm of rain this year, in comparison to 121 in ’25, just below the six year average if 128mm or so.

Whilst  too early to predict the total for June, but with 81mm already by the weekend, and a recent new moon (the biodynamic farmers amongst our number will nod sagely at this revelation). I reckon that records could be broken.

Back to business, curiosity got the better of me and I spent an enjoyable few hours at this week’s Muck Management Event in North Wales. I’ll start with the disclaimer, I arrived around 10am and left site just before 1pm, so I wasn’t there all day. I like the idea of a specialist muck event, the site layout was excellent and the organisers are to be congratulated for such a strong seminar programme. But I have to say there were not a lot of cars in the car park, and very few people on stands who looked like farmers and contractors. As one exhibitor put it ‘it wouldn’t be so bad, but theres no phone signal either’ If you know, you know.

Had Muck Management been hosted at Diddly Squat, one can only assume the crowds would have thronged? Speaking of which I am packing wellies, waterproofs, factor 30 and the straw hat this week ready for the Cereals Event. All options covered.

It’s not just UK sprayer manufacturers who have got into trouble recently, with Herbert Dammann filing for insolvency in the last few days.

Have a good week, and I’ll maybe see you in a field in the Cotswolds.
