Comment – Big, Beautiful and Hungry Cows?

It’s been a busy week and readers of the Guardian may have spotted that Krone have halted exports to the USA over the complications around tariffs. See here for the full story.

This resonates with what the VDMA told the assembled journalists at the pre Agritechnica Press Days last month, that not only is the finished product subject to a tariff, but steel and aluminium elements are also subject to an additional tariff, complicated. Also given that all self propelled foragers in the US market are made in Europe,  if the other manufacturers follow suit (or indeed continue selling at tariff inflated prices), the cows will be hungry.

Back in Blighty, New Holland have rearranged matters covering the dealership hole left by RVT, with a future announcement awaited for Mid and North Wales.

This week, I traveled to the House of Lords in Westminster, and was humbled and honoured to receive an Associateship from the Council for Awards of the Royal Agricultural Societies (CARAS). I was a wonderful ceremony and immensely enjoyable listening to the achievements of the recipients, well done all.

The obvious counterpoint to this gadding about is that the weekend has been spent MOT’ing the ewes ready to meet the tups, as they say, if you know, you know.

Have a good week.
