Comment – Range (or area) anxiety?

During a bad harvest, such as we are enduring this summer, egged on by customers pictures doing the rounds on X (the platform formerly known as Twitter) and WhatsApp, it’s easy to get carried away with the doom of covering the ground during a wet time.

Just remember, when it does dry up, and it will, that there is a very impressive amount of horsepower, tracks and header width available to gobble up the harvest. Whilst quality will be an issue for some, many are resigned to waiting for the weather. In fact several illustrious arable farmers I know dashed off for a last minute holiday in the previous couple of weeks.

As a supply chain you can take the credit for supplying, servicing and repairing all that harvesting capacity.

Elsewhere in the news there is the salutary story of one electric car manufacturers range claims (a whiff of dieselgate me thinks), have a read of this and see what you think? Next time you are considering under specifying to get the deal, think on!

Back to business, getting decent staff has been a problem for a long time in the industry, and I always recommend looking sideways at related industries for examples which work to deliver that new blood which is desperately needed. See here and here for a couple of positive examples.

Have a good week, and watch out for the sun, its coming, somewhere!
