Apprentices outperform national average, with nearly three in four earning top grades

John Deere apprentices are completing agriculture, turf and parts engineering programmes at a rate well above the national average.

The manufacturer reports a 91% programme achievement rate, compared with around 60% nationally. Of its Level 3 apprentices, 74% earned a merit or distinction in their End Point Assessment (EPA), the independent final evaluation used to confirm occupational competence.

Merit and distinction grades are awarded to candidates scoring 75% or above, broadly equivalent to an A grade at A-level. Every apprentice completing the programme has also passed the EPA for four consecutive years.

John Deere Branch Training Manager Allan Cochran said: “Achieving a 91% programme achievement rate is something we are extremely proud of, particularly when considering where the national average stands.

“To see almost three-quarters of our Level 3 apprentices achieving a merit or distinction shows they are not only completing the course, but performing at the very highest level.

“These results reflect the commitment shown by our apprentices, their dealers and mentors, and everyone involved in delivering the programme. We would like to congratulate every apprentice who has reached this milestone and thank those who have played such an important part in their success.”

The apprenticeship programme combines paid employment with training leading to nationally recognised qualifications. Delivery is in partnership with ProVQ at the John Deere Apprentice Training Centre in Upper Saxondale, Nottinghamshire.

Running for more than 30 years, the programme has produced more than 1,400 people who have progressed into careers across John Deere’s UK and Ireland dealer network. It is designed to give young people a route into the agricultural machinery industry while helping dealers develop skilled technicians and parts professionals.

Apprentices gain practical knowledge and technical skills intended to support careers across John Deere’s worldwide dealership network. The programme also supports the manufacturer’s long-term commitment to developing the next generation of service and parts specialists.

Candidates interested in applying can find current opportunities through the John Deere Apprenticeship Finder.
