Brazilian Engine Facility Marks 25 Years of Production and Innovation
FPT is marking 25 years of operations at its Sete Lagoas plant in Minas Gerais, Brazil, celebrating a quarter-century of continuous improvement, innovation and commitment to quality.
Since its inauguration on 25 November 2000, the Sete Lagoas facility has produced more than 725,000 engines, playing a significant role in the industrial development of Latin America and supporting the transition to more sustainable energy solutions. The plant manufactures engines for on-road, off-road and power generation applications, including models from the F1, NEF and S8000 series used in commercial vehicles, agricultural and construction machinery, and power generation systems.
The site is recognised for its use of advanced manufacturing methodologies that combine quality, safety and continuous improvement. In line with FPT’s decarbonisation strategy in Latin America, the plant also leads development work on alternative fuel technologies, including ethanol, natural gas and biomethane.
Carlos Tavares, president of FPT for Latin America, says the Sete Lagoas plant plays a central role in the company’s regional operations. He adds that its achievements reflect the commitment and expertise of the workforce, which continues to drive efficiency, innovation and sustainability across production activities.
Jeanie Gonçalves, plant manager at Sete Lagoas, explains that each engine produced represents the combined knowledge and teamwork of the site’s employees. She says the focus remains on advancing technology and delivering value to customers, while supporting the future of energy and mobility in Latin America.
Employing around 250 people, the Sete Lagoas plant covers a total area of 68,372m² and houses modern production lines and facilities. Since opening, the site has evolved continuously, moving from early production stages through to the manufacture of next-generation engines. Today, it supplies a broad customer base across the region, including Iveco, Volkswagen Caminhões e Ônibus, Iveco Bus, Marcopolo, Agrale, New Holland, Case IH, Case Construction Equipment, Brasif, Landini, Pauny, Caimán, Himoinsa, Generac, PowGen and Pramac.
Beyond manufacturing, the plant places strong emphasis on people development. Through initiatives such as the FPT Program, delivered in partnership with the Sete Lagoas Municipal Technical School, the company provides technical training and supports the development of young talent. Since 2024, the programme has involved more than 100 participants.
Sustainability initiatives also remain a priority. In 2024, the plant replaces wooden packaging with reusable metal structures, preventing the disposal of 16 tonnes of wood, reducing emissions and supporting circular economy principles.
In Brazil, FPT currently produces around 40 per cent of its output for the Iveco Group, with the remaining 60 per cent supplied to third-party customers. This production is supported by a nationwide network of approximately 150 distributors and service points, ensuring local service and support across the country.
