Comment – Football fever and grim reality
By the time some of you read this, England will (or won’t) have won the Euro 24 final.
Whilst I’m tempted to add my two penneth at this point as any good ‘sofa manager’ would, it’s beyond my comprehension really. Even the new PM Sir Kier has got in on the act by saying he ‘doesn’t want to jinx it’ by refusing to commit to a fresh bank holiday if England wins.
I note that the farming press is rather febrile regarding the fresh government, however conversations with farm managers and land agents, tend to suggest that in the short term at least its business as usual for current support schemes and the sustainable farming incentive. See link below for a view from afar.
Closer to home congratulations to the winner and runners up in this years LE-TEC Technician for 2024 competition see: https://agrimachinery.trade/winners-of-technicians-for-2024-competition-announced/ for the full story.
This week the Institution of Agricultural Engineers launched the theme for the annual Landwards conference, Why we need agricultural engineers? I know this is preaching to the converted somewhat, but the programme looks good, with its focus on asking the wider industry what it requires of us. Book your place here https://iagre.org/conference-2024
Whilst The sun is briefly shining I’m going to rush out and do some ‘outside’ jobs now..
Enjoy the football and have a good week!
