Comment – Oak before the Ash

The weather has forced my hand, and with no forecast rain, for better, or for worse, the spring cereal crop has been sown.

Having borrowed the disc harrows, tightened all available bolts, greased every nipple, and checked that the additional ballast was secure, off we set! I have to say I’m quite impressed, in our stony ground, they did well, nothing fell off, and they have left a decent tilth, still a few wet spots though. Also note that this Northern spring has had triple the rainfall in the same period as ’25. So whilst the proper arable farmer will laugh at our efforts, it’s only just dry enough now.

As Dad would say, ‘it’s no good in the bag’, so it’s in the field now. Time will tell.

Elsewhere, the Middle East situation isn’t really sorting itself out, and the ever cheerful Bank of England now tell us that stock markets are too high and about to tank, they just don’t know when. They of all people should know when not to precipitate a ‘run on the bank’.. In my stock market, lamb and beef are doing well. Let’s hope there is no crash there.

Oh and before I forget, the oak leaves are definitely ahead of the ash this year, so we are ‘in for a splash’.

Hey ho, let’s enjoy the weather and crack on!

Have a good one.
