Comment – the merry-go-round, and some stability.

Just watching the news is exhausting this week!

Business in general, and farming in particular, loves stability, to plan, organise and deliver. It doesn’t appear that the world’s leaders are listening to this plea.

The global markets have responded to Trumps latest set of announcements with an inevitable slide, despite the exemption for car makers. Given that we are somewhat removed from the action, havea look at some responses from both US and Canadian farm organisations here.

Closer to home it’s pleasing to see that the authorities are cracking down on plant crime, have a look at the BBC News story here.

In the business I note that G & J Peck have announced “In response to increasing pressures in the market, we have had to make some difficult decisions to reinforce the company’s place as a leading supplier of agricultural machinery in the region.” Branches will be rationalised and staff consultation is ongoing. A sensible decision, considering the alternatives. The full announcement is here.

The sheep are due to start lambing this week, so I’m making the most of getting a decent nights sleep and bracing for the coming storm, still it’s dry, warm and the grass is growing. Long may it continue.

Have a good week.
