Cultivations partnership going strong

  • Lloyd Ltd is celebrating a successful first year as a dealer for Grange Machinery Ltd.

The Grange Machinery product range helps lower the cost of crop establishment whilst improving soil structure and efficiency in the field

Customers invest in Grange machines to enhance and add versatility to their current farming system. Grange machines are highly adaptable and can transform existing systems that may already be on the farm, offering greater flexibility and efficiency.

The range specialises in adaptable low disturbance toolbars and standalone looseners which offer solutions to many cultivation and seeding challenges; Grange Machinery has also recently launched the Strip-Till Preparator, now in full production following successful on-farm trials.

Founded in 1964 as a tractor dealership in Carlisle, Lloyd Ltd has grown considerably over the past five decades but has retained its approach and style as a family-run business with local roots.

With branches across the North of England and South of Scotland – in Alnwick, Bishop Auckland, Carlisle, Dumfries, Kelso, Lothians, Newcastle and Penrith, plus a new branch opening soon in the Garstang area of Lancashire – Lloyd Ltd supports many industry sectors through its range of new and used agricultural, groundcare, construction and materials-handling equipment and machinery.

“We were delighted to take on the Grange Machinery franchise at all branches, expanding our tillage and cultivation range,” explains Managing Director George Lloyd.

“We have been really impressed with Grange Machinery and believe their product range suits our customers’ needs well. They have an excellent reputation in the market and offer an exciting addition to our portfolio.” he adds.

Grange Machinery’s Managing Director Rhun Jones comments: “We are delighted to have Lloyd Ltd as our approved and stocking dealers covering the North West and North East of England, the South West of Scotland and the Borders. We are excited to grow our business through a very reputable and highly-regarded machinery dealer with a clear vision for the way the agricultural industry is quickly changing, and the different types of machinery required to fulfil the industry’s requirements.”

IJ & G Prudham supply contract farming and contracting services alongside their own beef enterprise near Carlisle and offer an ideal example of the service that Lloyd Ltd can offer customers in stocking Grange machines.

“We have a Grange CCT soil loosener fitted to our Vaderstad Spirit drill and it has transformed how we establish crops, reducing the number of passes, improving productivity and enhancing soil condition,” explains Graham Prudham.

On much of the land, the drill and loosener combination can go straight into stubble or lightly disced surfaces.

“We used to do a lot of ploughing and combi drilling,” Mr Prudham continues. “We were using 8-9 litres of fuel per acre for the cultivations and a further 6-8 litres per acre for the drill. With the Spirit and Grange CCT, we use 5-7 litres per acre in total and can cover 80 acres/day.”

He adds that he has found the Grange CCT to be robust and hardwearing even on the stony soils on the farm, and parts to be cost effective.

“Importantly we are seeing less compaction and can travel in wet weather, yet the soils hold moisture in dry conditions.”

It’s a success story that will go from strength to strength under the Grange Machinery and Lloyd Ltd partnership.
