Comment – Some perspective

Where did this week go?

First up,  the POTUS (let me know if you don’t know who that is) has threatened to stop diesel supply to Europe if some EU reserves are not released, hence this weeks pump price being over £2 a litre. In response the G7/EU has agreed a ‘significant release’ from the strategic reserve. Which sounds a lot to me. But hold on a minute, how big is the EU’s strategic reserve? The proposed 50m-barrel EU diesel release is  about 18% of the EU’s emergency diesel/gasoil reserve. Reuters reports that this would represent around 3% of the EU’s annual diesel consumption.  Or eleven days consumption. Doesn’t sound like a lot to me.

And, if you think thats bad, spare a thought for the corn and soya harvest in the midwest, up by $12,500 per 1000 acres according to the Guardian.

Closer to home, the eagle eyed will have spotted that John Deere is returning to LAMMA which has been a topic of debate for several years amongst exhibitors and event organisers alike.

Having run around with the big stick, I am now settling down safe in the knowledge that both the red and white tanks will get us through the winter. Although ‘someone’ in the house wants the Aga to be turned back on… Thats not a battle I’m going to win.

Have a good week
