Comment – Out and about

It’s been a hectic week, mostly in a field somewhere off the A505 in South Cambridgeshire.

Elsewhere, the latest August tractor registrations don’t look brilliant, but, and inline with their EU colleagues, the mood music is beginning to sound better. See here for the full story.

There’s been a lot of hype around the dangers from AI, but it seems that perhaps some balance is returning with this article yours truly spotted on the BBC this week. Perhaps there was a similar frenzy, with much pitchfork waving, when the idea of the printing press was first mooted (and look where that got us!). There is not doubt that the suite of technologies called AI have great potential, and in many cases are already being put to good use.

Going back to Tillage-Live, it was good to get back in the field after a two year hiatus, and with a decent turnout, attendees were positive. Certainly, the demo companies and exhibitors I spoke with were happy. Despite drought and yield concerns, harvest was easy, cheap (no grain drying required), growers are on top of field work and waiting for weed flushes before drilling now. Plus the futures prices are encouraging autumn planting and forward selling. All of which is good in our world.
