JCB equipment on the Scot Agri stand at Royal Highland Show
- An all-electric Loadall 525-60E raising funds for the NSPCC charity and a painstakingly restored 3C backhoe-loader will be among the eye-catching JCB equipment exhibited by Scot Agri at this year’s Royal Highland Show
The machines will be lined-up alongside JCB’s newly-launched Fastrac 4220 iCON, the latest-spec 403 and TM420S wheeled loaders, the unique Teletruk telescopic forklift, and a 538-60 representing the extensive JCB Loadall telescopic handler line-up.
The Loadall 525-60E on display not only represents JCB’s growing range of battery-powered E-TECH zero at-source emissions machines but also JCB’s Platinum Jubilee NSPCC Appeal, which aims to raise thousands of pounds for the children’s charity.
Built by a team of 36 JCB apprentices, who have all signed the engine cover, the machine features a vinyl wrap incorporating the handprints of 20 pupils from schools close to JCB World Headquarters in Staffordshire. Together with a portable power pack also built by the apprentices, the special telehandler will be auctioned to add funds to the appeal.
The diminutive 403 is JCB’s smallest wheeled loader; it has 50hp, hydrostatic drive and can be configured to just over 1.0m wide to gain access to the tightest of buildings – in stark contrast to the new flagship of JCB’s purpose-built agricultural loader range, the 457S.
Out-gunning even the 435S – the widely acknowledged ‘King of the Clamp’ – the new 20-tonne 457S packs a 282hp engine for a class-leading power-to-weight ratio, and a new six-speed manual/auto powershift transmission with selectable torque converter lock-up for massive pushing power and sustained high productivity loading and re-handling.
Likewise, the TM420S being shown at the Highland is the flagship of JCB’s telescopic wheeled loader range; it features a twin pump installation for high-output, fast response hydraulics without needing lots of revs from the most powerful iteration of the 4.8-litre JCB Dieselmax developing 173hp.
This engine is paired with a unique eight-speed powershift transmission with selectable torque converter lock-up in forward and reverse, which provides a good spread of ratios for effective silage clamp, muck heap and yard work, as well as the ability to travel at up to 50kph.
The JCB Loadall 538-60 on display represents JCB’s most comprehensive telescopic handler line-up, which now includes the new 542-70 AGRI Pro with 173hp and 50kph top speed from its award-winning DualTech VT combined hydrostatic and powershift transmission.
The 3.8 tonne/6.0m Loadall 538-60 on show is also available with this unique high-performance drive system in AGRI Xtra form with a 150hp engine, as well as a multiple choice of 109hp and 130hp engines with four- or six-speed powershift transmissions.
Many visitors to the Scot Agri stand, however, will make a bee-line for the Fastrac 4220 iCON with its all-new operator control environment based on a full-feature armrest console complete with 12in colour touch screen display.
This provides ready access to Fastrac settings and also to implement set-up and monitoring when ISOBUS is installed, which is an option along with JCB’s own GPS guidance and precision farming applications.
A new powertrain control strategy enabling fully automatic engine and transmission management to achieve target ground speeds under changing load is also part of the Fastrac iCON package for 4000 and 8000 series machines.
