Prime Minister talks tractors with agricultural engineering apprentices
- Case IH apprentices studying land-based engineering at Writtle College University (WUC) based in Essex were thrilled to welcome Prime Minister Rishi Sunak who joined them during a hands-on workshop on tractor maintenance
The PM was visiting the WUC’s campus to speak with young people about their passion for food and the farming sector. The apprentices spent time chatting with the PM about the workshop whilst demonstrating their understanding of agricultural machinery.
The students are studying through a partnership launched in 2022 by CNH (manufacturers of Case IH Agriculture) with WUC to address the skills gap for specialist engineers within the agricultural sector. The apprentices are all currently employed by Case IH Agriculture local dealerships throughout England. CNH is passionate about supporting young people within the land-based education sector to ensure that the technologies of tomorrow are taught to the students whilst adhering to a high level of technical standards. CNH also run a similar scheme in Scotland at Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) Oatridge campus.
Andrew Parsons, Case IH Agriculture Business Director UK & ROI commented “Agricultural engineers play a vital role in producing food for the nation and these apprenticeships are essential for training the future generation. We are extremely proud to work alongside both WUC and SRUC in delivering and supporting these important courses within the land-based education sector.”
