Why we need Agricultural Engineers – Industry conference launched
- This year’s IAgrE conference will explore the engineering needs and requirements of various stakeholders in the farm to fork supply chain as we work together to create an efficient, profitable food production systems
- The Institution of Agricultural Engineers (IAgrE) annual conference takes place on Wednesday 6th November 2024 at Rothamsted Conference Centre, Harpenden AL5 2JQ
Significant changes are inevitable as we balance climate change and food security for a growing population. Agricultural engineering will be key to resolving the challenges and enabling solutions to create an efficient, profitable food production system.
Dr Mark Moore, Director of Government Affairs at AGCO and IAgrE President says, “We cannot solve the challenges of climate change, a growing population etc at the conference, but we can start to think about how we are going to tackle them – and the essential role that agricultural engineers will play in creating joined up solutions”.
The conference will explore improving the contribution that Agricultural Engineering can make to sustainable food production. It will not focus on the challenges, but on how we can achieve the solutions. By encouraging the thought process between the different stakeholders, we intend to highlight what engineers working in agriculture need to focus on for the future.
The conference will be opened by Dr Mark Moore, Director Government Affairs, AGCO Ltd and the President of IAgrE.
Speakers to date are:
Kate Halliwell, Chief Scientific Officer, Food & Drink Federation will highlight the challenges.
Jelte Wiersma, Secretary General, CEMA (European Agricultural Machinery Association) will provide what the policymakers want from agricultural engineering.
Kieran Walsh, Agronomist, Grounded Agvice will look at what agronomic service providers need from agricultural engineering.
James Price, Perdiswell Farm, Oxfordshire will give a regenerative farmer’s view and will outline the farmers’ requirements.
We will also have a food retailer’s view and a livestock sector view, and speakers will be confirmed in the next few weeks.
The event will culminate in a panel discussion, where our high profile speakers will answer questions from the audience and give the audience the chance to put their views forward.
This conference will be of interest to a broad spectrum of people, including students, academics, technologists and industry engineers as we explore the future and ensure that through agricultural engineering we secure food security for all.
