Italian sprayer manufacturer to close
John Deere has confirmed it will close and liquidate the historic Italian sprayer manufacturer Mazzotti, ending a nine-year chapter following its acquisition of the Ravenna-based business in 2017.
The move comes as Deere continues to streamline its global operations around a more standardised machinery portfolio, with the company citing low order volumes in the self-propelled sprayer segment as a key factor behind the decision.
According to Deere, 29 employees at the Ravenna facility will be affected by the closure, while consultations with Italian unions and local authorities are ongoing regarding support measures for workers. The company added that no other Deere facilities are impacted.
Despite the closure, Deere stated it will continue to provide parts and service support for existing Mazzotti and John Deere 300M Series sprayers already operating in the field.
Mazzotti specialised in compact and high-clearance self-propelled sprayers tailored to European row-crop and speciality-crop applications. After acquiring the business, Deere progressively integrated the Italian manufacturer into its own precision agriculture ecosystem, eventually branding machines as “Mazzotti by John Deere”.
The transition became increasingly visible in recent years. Deere phased out the original IBIS and MAF sprayer ranges in favour of the 300M and 500R Series, while at Agritechnica 2023 the company unveiled Italian-built 300 Series sprayers finished entirely in John Deere green and yellow livery for the first time.
Industry observers see the closure as part of a wider consolidation strategy inside Deere, aimed at unifying branding, technology integration and dealer support under the core John Deere identity. The decision follows Deere’s recent discontinuation of the PLA planter and sprayer brand in Brazil.
The closure marks the end of one of Italy’s best-known specialist sprayer manufacturers, which had operated from Ravenna for decades and built a strong reputation in compact self-propelled application equipment across Europe.
